Podcasting

Podcasting is the process of distributing information digitally in an audio format. People will often confuse podcasts with other forms of media, such as vlogs and webcasts, however distinct differences exist between them all. Unlike vlogs, which combine both audio and visual mediums, podcasts generally favor audio. Although podcasts with video do exist, they are less common than those that contain only audio files. With this form of media, the audio content is created and formatted for download by a user on a media device. They differ from webcasts in that webcasts are live streaming events that can be accessed and viewed through a website. Podcasts are prerecorded then released as an episode that listeners can download and listen to at anytime. The name podcast was coined from the rising popularity of the iPod, since many podcasts were downloaded and listened to through iPods.

Why does TrackMaven think that Podcasting is important?

Podcasting provide companies with additional methods for reaching out to the public. In today’s increasingly mobile society, podcasting may be the best way to communicate with those on-the-go consumers. These allow people to download content from a company and listen to it on demand at a time that is convenient, instead of committing to a certain time as would be the case with a webinar. It is also easier to create and distribute podcasts than it is to set up a webinar, so businesses can use podcasts to disseminate smaller pieces of information that do not require an in-depth explanation.
