Pinterest

Pinterest is a social media platform that was founded by Ben Silbermann and Evan Sharp and it launched in private beta in March 2010. Later Pinterest released invitations for an open beta.

It is a highly visual platform that has a pin-board style and users can share photos and images through collections they create. These collections are called boards and each individual post is called a pin. If you want to share another users pin, you can re-pin the post. Pinterest also has a commenting feature as well. Users on Pinterest can follow each other or follower a user’s individual boards.

There are categories the gather pins and boards together that represent that category. There are over 30 different categories on Pinterest from Animals to Food and Drink.

As of July 2013, there were over 70 million users on Pinterest.
