Would it be worth it then to have 10,000 followers? No. That’s why your focus on metrics should be on mentions, favorites, and most importantly Retweets. Our Retweet Report indicated that there is a slight correlation in the number of followers to the number of Retweets a user gets…until of course you look at two significant outliers.
Justin Bieber and Barack Obama exemplify that number of followers doesn’t always determine the average number of retweets you can receive.
Both have millions of followers:
Justin Bieber has 46,802,957 followers and Barack Obama slightly behind with 39,613,288 followers.
Previous beliefs that number of followers determine number of retweets are completely shutdown with the number of Retweets Justin Bieber gets. Bieber completely slams the President with over 67,676.97 retweets on average. While Obama in comparison gets a mere 1,836.18 retweets on average.
