Product placement is the practice of businesses paying to have their products featured in movies and television programs. By showing the products in the film or shows, companies can gain exposure for their product.

Businesses can benefit greatly from product placement. Movies and television shows are a great way to expose a product to an incredibly large audience. When people watch a movie and observe a character in the film using a brand name product, the viewers are more likely to try the product for themselves. The character using it is seen as a sign of trust for the product, and will entice the consumer to trust the product as well. Placing a product in highly anticipated movies or popular programs can lead to an increase in sales. However, the more popular vehicles will probably be more expensive for the company to feature its products in.

Psychology can play a significant role in product placement, and companies can strategically position their products in movies and shows that will elicit the greatest psychological effects from consumers. One example is research that has shown that consumers are more likely to buy a product if an attractive character is using it.
