Opt-In

Opt-in is when somebody expresses consent to receive something from a company. Providing the option for a consumer to opt-in to something is usually part of direct marketing campaigns. The offer can be sent through email, direct mail, or other forms of marketing messages. Opting-in to marketing offers could entail several things. It could mean that the consumer is signing up to receive products, subscribing to receive periodicals, agreeing to receive information about a company, and much more.

Why does TrackMaven think that Opt-In is important?

Opt-In is important because having an opt-in program shows consumers that a company has something of value to offer them, without giving off that intrusive feeling that many vendors emanate. The option to opt-in is a big part of a good email marketing. In many instances, consumers are registered to receive emails from companies without their knowledge, resulting in the vast volume of spam emails that flood the average inbox. Consumers subject to that scenario were not given the option to opt-in, thus they unwillingly receive these marketing messages from companies. Businesses that explicitly ask consumers for consent through opt-in programs before providing marketing materials to consumers demonstrate that they have information that the consumer might want, in a much less intrusive manner. The practice of unwillingly subscribing consumers to receive emails could lead to disdain from the consumers, and thus a worse brand reputation.
