Meta Tags

Meta tags are HTML elements that search engines use to index web pages and determine search result rankings. These tags provide some insight on the content of a page. There are several kinds of Meta tags, with each serving a unique, descriptive purpose. The most important and most used of which are the description Meta tag, the keywords Meta tag, and the robots Meta tag. Description tags are the few lines of text that appear under the URL of a website on a search page, usually containing one of the searched words in bold. The Keywords tag helps to identify the most important words or phrases on a page, which makes it easier for search engines to identify ranking. Unlike other meta tags, which tell search engines how to index pages, the robots tag tells search engines how not to. Including a robots tag in the HTML for a web page will instruct the search engine to not include that page in its results.
