Call-To-Action (CTA)

A Call-to-Action (CTA) is a marketer’s prompt to a visitor to perform a desired action. This can be a hyperlinked sentence in a text ad, a hyperlink in an email, a banner, a button, or any other clickable items. CTA’s can be found within most advertisements, and should always be placed on landing pages to encourage visitors to perform a task. The desired action can be anything, from filling out an information form, to contacting a company representative, to actually making a purchase.

Without displaying a CTA, a visitor might not know what the next step is to acquire a product. Marketers should make it as easy as possible for a visitor to move through the marketing funnel to increase a company’s conversion rates. This entails having a clear, explicit CTA each step of the way. Todays consumers are becoming increasingly accustomed to instant gratification. If an unclear CTA impedes them, a company could end up losing a sale. Businesses should keep an eye on their CTA conversion rates to decide if their current CTA is effective. If the current call-to-action is not producing a satisfactory conversion rate, it may be time to make a change.
